Job location
Forensicare provides specialist forensic mental health services across 12 of Victoria’s 14 prisons with expansion underway to include Western Plains in the Barwon region. Based at Melbourne Assessment Prison (MAP) in Spencer Street, West Melbourne, VIC; MAP provides 175 mental health intake receptions per week, 24/7 crisis intervention, very busy primary and specialist mental health outpatient service and a 16-bed custodial acute assessment unit, we provide initial assessment and treatment to seriously mentally ill prisoners; an after-hours mental health crisis intervention service.
About the Role:
The Senior Psychologist provides a high level of clinical psychological expertise to Forensicare’s Psychology Service at the Melbourne Assessment Prison (MAP). The Senior Psychologist undertakes the required responsibilities as a member of the multi-disciplinary team and provides high level consultation and advice on complex clinical matters; provides consultation and liaison with MAP psychologists and psychologists at TEH concerning MAP patients; completes psychological reports for court as required; provides professional leadership within the organisation, and contributes to special projects, committees and working parties within the organisation including the development of policies and procedures. As a senior professional representative, the position also provides consultancy and advice to other agencies and key stakeholders.
Duties:
- Work within an ethically and legally sound framework.
- Provides an advanced range of psychological services including advice on the management and treatment of complex patient issues to other clinicians.
- Provide specialist psychological, psychometric assessments and reports where necessary.
- Provide individual and/or group interventions as appropriate.
- Contribute to patient risk management plans in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team.
- Provide consultation and liaison with psychologists with Corrections Victoria and Forensicare concerning patients from the AAU or patients being treated in outpatients at MAP.
- Provide independent psychological reports for the courts as required.
About You:
- Endorsement or eligibility for endorsement by AHPRA in the area of clinical psychology and/or forensic psychology.
- Listed as a registered supervisor (or eligible for being so listed) with AHPRA.
- At least five years’ experience in providing a high level of services in forensic mental health and related settings.
- Demonstrated commitment to mental health consumer recovery.
- Expertise in clinical forensic mental health practice including forensic assessments (i.e., court ordered assessments, assessment of risk for violence) and intervention with offenders.
- Demonstrated experience in a mental health facility, correctional service, or a forensic mental health service.
What you need:
- Masters or Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited course or equivalent, or a Doctorate degree in Forensic Psychology from an APS accredited course or equivalent.
- Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA).
- The successful candidate will be required to register their qualifications on eCredential.
