The Research and Prototype Foundry (RPF) within the DVC - Research portfolio enables fabrication of a wide range of research material and devices, with applications in areas including optical chips, electronics, microfluidics and new quantum science and technology.

About the opportunity

As the Education Technical Support Officer, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality technical advice, administrative and operational support to meet the core training and education needs of the Research and Prototype Foundry. You will ensure the effective delivery of educational support services, aligning with the Facility's objectives and fostering a safe and well-equipped learning environment for staff and students. You will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with relevant legislative, regulatory, and accreditation requirements, contributing to the Facility's commitment to excellence in education and research

This is an exceptional opportunity to develop new educational initiatives that leverage the state-of-the-art nanofabrication facilities to provide training that prepares students for high technology careers in quantum, advanced semiconductors and microfluidics. A key component of the role is supporting our facility user training provided to academics and industry. You will play a crucial role in ensuring that the training delivered by our Process Engineers is pedagogically sound. This will help ensure that facility users can operate safely and confidently after training, maintaining the highest standards of competency and safety across the Facility.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • work within a dynamic team, reporting to the Academic Director
  • provide technical and administrative support for undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programs, assisting academic staff with policy interpretation and procedural matters
  • manage program evaluation processes, analyse survey data, and prepare reports to enhance education support services and align with strategic objectives
  • oversee training delivery, curriculum support, and assessment planning while ensuring effective adoption of educational practices within RPF
  • coordinate and publish educational materials across print and digital platforms, ensuring accuracy and accessibility for students and staff
  • maintain strong relationships with academic leaders, professional service units, and technical teams to facilitate seamless educational support
  • track financials, ensure policy adherence, and oversee reporting, compliance, and WHS requirements for education support services.

About you

  • tertiary qualifications in physics or engineering (highly desirable) with relevant experience in business administration support and/or equivalent combination of relevant training and experience
  • experience delivering education programs, preferably in a tertiary education environment
  • experience working in a tertiary environment with working knowledge of using Learning Management Systems together with sound understanding of timetabling/rostering of student activities
  • financial management experience and literacy, experience managing budgets and controlling income and expenditure
  • effective and tactful communication skills (both verbal and written) together with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to use initiative and exercise sound judgement
  • excellent time and workload management skills with demonstrated ability to prioritise effectively, manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines and achieve required outcomes
