The Ninth Ave is a well-loved fast-paced café destination in Westmeadows, known for our high-quality food, creative dishes, and all-day breakfast and lunch menu. We're looking for a skilled and motivated Sous Chef to join our team and work closely with our Head Chef to deliver exceptional culinary experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

· Collaborate with the Head Chef in planning menus and creating new dishes.

· Prepare and cooking food whilst coordinating with head chef and other kitchen staff and front of house staff.

· Check the cold room temperature and freezer to ensure proper storage conditions.

· Prepare for service, which includes ensuring the kitchen is well stocked with the necessary ingredients, as well as cleaning, cutting and maintaining food.

· Contribute to menu design, development, and seasonal updates with creative input

· Produce high-quality dishes with consistency in presentation, portioning, and taste

· Supervise and mentor kitchen staff, ensuring clear communication and efficient teamwork

· Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant kitchen in line with food safety and hygiene standards

· Ensure timely preparation and service during peak hours while maintaining quality standards

· Train and guide junior chefs and kitchen hands, encouraging skill development and accountability

· Monitor equipment and report maintenance needs to keep kitchen operations running smoothly

· Implement and enforce health & safety regulations and ensure kitchen compliance with all relevant laws

Skills and Qualifications-

· Proven experience as a Sous Chef.

· Minimum Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or equivalent

· Minimum 3 years of experience after Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery

· Sound knowledge of modern cooking techniques, food presentation and kitchen operations

· Strong leadership, organizational, and time management skills

· Ability to stay calm under pressure and adapt to dynamic service environments

· A genuine passion for food, innovation, and customer satisfaction

· Excellent communication and organizational skills

· Able to work under busy work environment
