About the role

The Youth Justice Services Division is responsible for the safety, security and rehabilitation of young people both in the community and custody. Its core objective is to reduce reoffending among young people through: programs and services for young people on orders in the community and in custody; and services to divert young people away from the criminal justice system.

The key role of the Community Work Officer is to work with young people subject to community work obligations or orders issued by sentencing and releasing authorities. The Community Work Officer works with the aim of ensuring that young people in their care satisfy the requirements of their community work obligations according to legislation and Departmental policy in a manner that the young people make reparation to the community through the work undertaken, retain a sense of dignity and self-worth, and where possible, have an opportunity to develop new skills that contribute to their rehabilitation.
