About the role

We’re looking for a Senior Development Compliance Officer to help preserve, protect, and enhance the natural and built environment of our city. If you have a passion for ensuring planning and environmental standards are met and enjoy mentoring and supervising a team, this role is for you!

As the Senior Development Compliance Officer, you'll play a key role in overseeing the compliance of planning and environmental activities, ensuring that developments align with the relevant legislation. You will lead field monitoring efforts, enforce planning regulations, and drive positive environmental outcomes. Your expertise will also be vital in guiding and mentoring other team members, ensuring they adhere to council policies and procedures.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Leading field monitoring and enforcement of planning and environmental activities to ensure compliance with relevant legislation.

Supervising and mentoring team members, providing guidance, training, and support.

Offering expert advice to both internal teams and stakeholders to ensure adherence to council policies.

Inspecting and assessing buildings and developments for compliance with LEPs, SEPPS, Zoning requirements, and the Building Code of Australia (BCA).

Addressing matters related to pollution in accordance with the Protection of the Environment Operations Act.

Collaborating with various departments to ensure planning and environmental goals are met.

Requirements

Relevant tertiary qualifications and significant experience in a supervisory law enforcement compliance role.

Significant demonstrated experience in a similar role; especially regarding the inspection and assessment of buildings and development for compliance with relevant LEPs, SEPPS and Zoning requirements including knowledge of the Building Code of Australia (BCA) as well as matters involving pollution in accordance with the POEO Act.

Detailed knowledge of relevant NSW planning legislation; especially the Environmental Planning & Assessment Act 1979, Local Government Act 1993 and the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997.

Rudimentary knowledge of the Road Transport legislation in NSW including the Roads Act 1993, Road Transport Act 2013 and HVNL.

Exceptional communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.

Advanced computer skills and experience in software office applications.

Current NSW Class C driver’s licence
