About the role

The City of Swan Fleet and Waste Services Business Unit is focused on meeting the environmental requirements by increasing resource recovery and further reduce waste to landfill while reducing the impact of waste on the environment. Engaging in programs and initiatives to further increase the level of recycling throughout the City through adopting both legislative change and future growth predictions and to ensure that KPI's, targets, future planning and City and Waste Recycling Management strategies are met in a timely and effective manner and on budget.

You will safely and efficiently operate rear and side loader vehicles to collect General Waste, Recycling or Food Organics & Garden Organics (FOGO) bins from verges within the City of Swan while adhering closely to health and safety policies, procedures and regulations. You may also be required to provide services such as but not limited to litter collection, bin repairs, bin replacements, bin deliveries and bulk verge collection in a safe and efficient manner.

You will be an effective member of the Waste Services team in providing a consistently reliable and efficient services to customers with a commitment to a high level of customer service. The Side Loader Operator will utilise strong customer service and negotiation skills to respond to internal and external customer requirements and issues, as well as obtaining the best value outcomes for the maintenance of the City's assets.

You will be required to be available to undertake work in line with roster requirements and, to work public holidays and overtime as necessary.

About you

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Current HR class Drivers Licence (WA)
  • A satisfactory National Police Certificate is required
  • Can-do and positive team player attitude
  • Experience and knowledge of safe and efficient operation of heavy vehicles
  • Experience complying with relevant Work Health and Safety legislation and working in a safe and efficient manner, having regard to own safety, the public and that of other workers
  • Minimum 1 year experience driving heavy vehicles in built up Metropolitan areas
  • Demonstrated experience in side arm operation with the ability to collect 1000+ bins per 10 hour shift, per day
  • Proficient Computer Skills – to undertake training, enter timesheets, leave requests, etc.

The salary for this position will be from $73,262 to $77,049 per annum plus weekend and public holiday penalties, depending on the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
