About the Opportunity

The Financial Analyst plays a key role in supporting the Financial Accounting team, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records at State Library Victoria. Reporting to the Manager Financial Accounting this role is responsible for preparing and posting journal entries, reconciling balance sheet accounts, managing pre-payments, and maintaining the fixed asset register (FAR). The Financial Analyst focuses on month-end processes while supporting ad hoc projects as required.

The Financial Analyst is accountable for the following measurable outcomes:

  • Preparing and posting journal entries in the general ledger, ensuring that the information holds high quality, accuracy and is prepared in a timely manner.
  • Reconciling balance sheet accounts, including accruals accounts, ensuring information is accurate and complete.
  • Managing and releasing pre-payments and reconciling related accounts, ensuring they are accurate, and the information is comprehensive and complete.
  • Maintaining and updating the Fixed Asset Register (FAR), including monthly depreciation runs to ensure the information holds expected standard and is accurate and delivered in a timely manner.
  • Supporting month-end close processes and ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Supporting the preparing financial reports and account analyses by providing assistance as needed.
  • Preparing BAS and other ATO lodgements, ensuring deadlines are met and that information is accurate and within requirements.
  • Supporting internal and external audit processes.
  • Building and maintaining collaboration with internal stakeholders, to enable seamless collaboration to resolve financial discrepancies.
  • Supporting the Accounting Operations Lead with financial compliance tasks to ensure seamless operations.
  • Assisting with ad hoc financial projects, as directed.

About You

The successful candidate has a sound understanding of financial principles, journal entries, and reconciliations.

In addition, you will come to us with:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance (CPA or CA qualification preferred) or extensive relevant experience in accounting roles, or professional services in related fields.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing or working with general ledger management and reconciliation.
  • Demonstrated experience working with accounting standards and month end processes
  • Experience utilising Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions, for financial analytics and reporting.
  • A track record of successful collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience with working with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (desirable)
  • Experience in public sector financial governance frameworks, including FRDs (desirable).
