The Role

The Town of Cambridge seeks a dynamic and experienced professional to join as the Coordinator of our Development Services team, playing a key role in delivering balanced and efficient statutory planning services. With a commitment to professionalism, diligence, and superior customer service, the successful candidate will deliver expert advice on town planning, manage development applications, review and develop local planning policies, and mentor team members to achieve excellence.

This multifaceted role involves leading community and stakeholder consultations, preparing and presenting planning proposals, conducting policy reviews, ensuring compliance, and engaging with applicants. The Coordinator will represent the Town at the State Administrative Tribunal, collaborate with government agencies, and partner with internal stakeholders to streamline statutory planning processes.

What we are looking for

The successful candidate’s core values will mirror the Town’s values of Friendly and helpful, Teamwork, Creativity, Integrity, and Respect, and be able to demonstrate the following:

At least 5 years’ experience in the assessment of a range of planning and subdivision applications, including Development Assessment Panel (DAP) applications and experience in processing development application reviews through the State Administrative Tribunal (SAT).

A sound understanding of the legislative planning framework including strategic and statutory planning processes in Western Australia.

Strong critical thinking skills for evaluating development applications and reviewing and drafting local planning policies.

Demonstrated high level report writing skills, including preparing complex planning reports to Council and DAP.

Well-developed supervisory and mentoring skills, including experience in training less experienced staff in development assessment and preparation of planning reports.

Experience in managing competing demands of stakeholders while ensuring the assessment of applications is undertaken in an accurate and efficient manner.

Ability to effectively manage time to ensure the delivery of an efficient and accurate planning service to the community.

Demonstrated interpersonal skills to engage a range of professional and community stakeholders and ability to negotiate with a helpful and solution focused approach.

Eligibility

Tertiary qualifications recognised by the Planning Institute Australia (PIA) in Urban and Regional Planning or a related discipline.

Australian working rights (birth certificate, current passport or current visa).

Current ‘C’ Class drivers licence.
