About Us:

Warringu is a not-for-profit organisation run by a community Board of Directors which members elect every year. The Board oversees the governance and strategic direction of the organisation. Warringu provides a specific range of services to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (and other) women and children impacted by family violence and homelessness both in Cairns and from surrounding areas including Yarrabah, the Atherton Tablelands, Cape York communities and the Torres Strait. This does not preclude the occasional clients from other cities throughout Qld and from other states when women may need to escape over State borders.

About the Role:

As a Domestic and Family Violence Case Worker (Casual Relief) at Warringu, you will provide essential support to women and children impacted by family violence and homelessness. Your role involves creating a safe and welcoming environment in the shelter, offering emotional support, and assisting with daily routines.

Essential Requirements:

Relevant tertiary qualifications in Behavioural Studies, Health, Education, or at least 3 years of experience in a similar role.

Experience in crisis intervention and a demonstrated ability to work in a challenging, fast-paced environment.

A current driver’s license and a Blue Card (Suitability for Child-Related Employment).

Selection Criteria:

Attention to detail, emotional maturity, and flexibility in managing responsibilities.

Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to changing situations.

Understanding of the challenges faced by women and children experiencing domestic violence and homelessness.

Strong computer literacy, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and data collection/reporting tools.

Experience working with Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities.
