KEY PURPOSE

The part-time Caseworker- Multicultural Youth is part of the Community Engagement Division. This role will support young people who are engaged in, or at high risk of, criminal offending, in delivering intensive case management support and related activities to CALD youth aged 10-17 and their families.

The role will coordinate and deliver a range of evidence-based interventions for young people and their families, addressing behavioural, environmental, and psychological risk factors that can lead to criminal involvement. Interventions depend on the individual client's circumstances but focus on the four factors:

• Reduce criminogenic risks

• Demonstrate reduced likelihood of future offending

• Attain education, employment and life goals

• Successfully transition to independence with existing local supports.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Comply with Work Plan requirements.

Provide intensive and holistic casework support to the target youth and their families through various evidence-based interventions.

Comprehensively and effectively assess a young person’s circumstances to develop an appropriate case plan based on the eight criminogenic needs and their individual goals.

Regularly review and reassess individual case plans and client circumstances to ensure interventions are suitable and targeted.

Identify, resource, and deliver relevant group intervention programs to address the needs of the target communities.

Fulfil documentation and reporting requirements, ensuring they are completed accurately and submitted on time.

Develop effective relationships and work collaboratively with key stakeholders, including local community groups, government, and non-government agencies, to support the delivery of the program.

Facilitate regular community consultations to promote collaboration and ensure the program is targeted and tailored to meet community needs.

Assist in organising events at organisational and project levels.

Comply with all regulatory funding standards and SydWest MS policies and procedures.

Ensure confidentiality and discretion in all service matters and client information.

Undertake other duties as required by the Settlement and Community Services Manager and Team Leader: Youth & Housing Services

Ensure personal safety and well-being and be proactive about maintaining a work-life balance.

To assist young people with referrals, training, and support in their journey towards continuing education or securing meaningful employment.

To assist CALD young people in making social connections and participating in the broader mainstream community.

To assist in the collection and management of client data that effectively captures relevant information and maps trends across the client cohort.

To capture project outputs and outcomes in various written reports.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Tertiary qualifications in Community Services, Youth Work, Social Work, Mental Health, Counselling, Psychology, Justice or related field.

Experience working with CALD youth who are at risk of entering or continue to engage with the criminal justice system.

Demonstrate experience in the development, delivery, evaluation of case management and group work for young people and CALD communities, utilising evidence-based interventions in one or more of the following key areas; family and peer relationships, education, employment, substance abuse, leisure and recreation, mental health, criminal orientation and thinking, and residential stability.

Demonstrate experience in using risk-needs assessment tools to facilitate intervention planning.

Demonstrate experience with and/or understanding of the principles of ‘strength-based’ and ‘person-centered’ service planning and delivery.

Knowledge of issues affecting CALD young people at risk of entering or continuing with the criminal justice system.

Understanding of individualisation of service and case planning based on static and dynamic risk levels, factors, and strengths.

Demonstrate high-level relational skills, with the ability to develop effective working relationships with cohorts that are hard to engage.

Demonstrate high-level interpersonal and cross-cultural communication and client advocacy skills to liaise effectively with all key stakeholders, including clients’ families, service providers, and communities.

Demonstrate high-level oral and written communication skills, with good attention to detail.

Understanding of confidentiality and discretion regarding all service matters and client information,

Ability to work independently and in a team environment,

Knowledge of child protection legislation and mandatory reporting mechanisms,

Demonstrated values of choice, celebration, connection, integrity, and quality.

Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs.

Excellent time management skills and ability to multitask and prioritise work.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Current driver’s license and access to a fully registered motor vehicle.

Current First Aid Certificate, National Police Check and Working with Children’s Check
