About the Role

As the Accounts/Payroll Administration Officer, you will play a key role in managing our payroll and accounts payable functions while also contributing to broader administrative and client coordination activities. You will have the opportunity to grow in the role and take on additional responsibilities over time.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll:

First point of contact for all payroll-related queries from GSS employees

Process weekly payroll in accordance with Awards, individual contracts, and internal policies

Accurately manage PAYG, superannuation, and other payroll tax obligations

Handle salary adjustments, leave entitlements, terminations, and redundancies

Review employee timesheets, reimbursements, and expense claims and addressing discrepancies where required

Escalate payroll issues to the Operations Manager and assist in resolution

Accounts Payable:

Reconcile bank statements and internal accounts

Maintain complete and accurate payroll and accounts payable records

Preparation of financial reports related to payroll and accounts payable; (Accountant to review)

Process and verify vendor invoices, ensuring they align with POs and contracts

Schedule and manage vendor payments in a timely and accurate manner

Recommend and help implement improvements in payroll and accounts processes

Administration & Coordination:

Support office management with travel, accommodation, and training/medical bookings

Maintain accurate filing and records in line with company policies

Identify and implement improvements to payroll/accounts processes

Assist with onboarding, client portal setups, and general office administration

Handle client enquiries and support company management with ad hoc tasks

About You

You’re a proactive and detail-oriented individual with a strong background in payroll and accounts administration. You take pride in accuracy and confidentiality and thrive in fast-paced environments.

Key Skills & Experience:

Minimum 5 years' experience in a payroll/accounts administration role, ideally in construction or engineering

Certificate III or IV in Accounting, Payroll, or related field (preferred)

Demonstrated experience using Xero and proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel

Strong knowledge of relevant Awards, payroll tax obligations, and employee entitlements

Excellent time management, organisation, and problem-solving skills

High attention to detail and a strong commitment to maintaining confidentiality regarding employee and company financial data

Excellent written and verbal communication

Ability to prioritise, meet deadlines, and manage competing tasks

Familiarity with the ground stabilisation or construction industry is advantageous.
