The Role
The APS 5 Work Health and Safety (WHS) Officer at Joint Logistics Unit – (Victoria) (JLU-(V)) Bandiana is accountable under limited direction to perform and achieve work health and safety within an integrated workforce. The WHS Officer is a critical role to ensure the ongoing ability for the Unit to continue to operate in a safe and effective manner and to maintain legislative compliance in accordance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2011.
The APS 5 WHS Officer will be accountable for organising their workflow and making independent decisions relating to their area of responsibility. They will undertake specialist research, conduct reviews, assessments, investigations and perform administrative support work to achieve results. The WHS Officer is expected to be capable of reviewing the quality of work undertaken by others and identifying opportunities for on-the-job training within a work unit.
The APS 5 Work Health and Safety Officer will be required to engage and communicate with stakeholders to identify, respond and provide advice on issues to achieve work unit and Defence outcomes. They will be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development.

Our Ideal Candidate
- Our ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter who has excellent communication skills and the ability to continually improve WHS management systems.
- Will be able to develop and maintain relationships with customers, enabling partners, contractors, stakeholders and external agencies. Be confident to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
- Provide operational WHS support and advice, as well as specialist safe workplace advice to JLU(V) Bandiana personnel.
- Perform WHS incident management and investigation, including working collaboratively with contractors to ensure that all WHS incidents are properly reported and investigated.
- Assist with the identification of risk and determining controls for the mitigation of risk.
