Your Opportunity

The Works Ganger supports the Works Supervisor in the coordination of the daily activities of the teams and resources within the construction and maintenance teams. This position also performs general labouring duties and operation of plant for which the position holder is licenced, as required.

Term: Full-time

Hours of Work: 76 hours per fortnight , 9-day fortnight

Pay Level: $2,485.80 to $2,662.95 per fortnight (Level 5 - 7), plus superannuation and annual leave loading (rates include Construction and Leading Hand Allowances)

In accordance with Council's Enterprise Agreement and the relevant Award. Pay rate dependent on relevant skills and experience.

Employment Base: Warwick or Stanthorpe, Queensland (will be negotiated with successful candidate) (remove or adjust as required)

  • Supervise and provide leadership of the daily work of the crew while establishing and maintaining an environment which encourages team work and collaboration, independently
  • Determine how a job will progress and the most efficient use of machinery, human resources and materials
  • Maintain documentation including a daily diary and job records
  • Promptly raise problems affecting work projects with immediate Supervisor and provide recommendation to resolve and complete the task
  • Use own judgement in solving day to day problems on the job
  • Accurately interpret drawings and specifications
  • Plan and schedule work and complete within agreed time frames and costs with supervisors

What You Will Need

To be considered for this role, you will need:

  • A Class C (car) licence or greater is required in this role
  • A white construction card or the ability to obtain one is a mandatory requirement for this role
  • Concreting form and finishing experience will be highly regarded
  • Commitment to excellent customer service
  • Previous extensive experience in road maintenance, construction or concrete works as appropriate to the designated work area of the role
  • Demonstrated extensive experience as a team leader with the demonstrated leadership skills and ability to coordinate and manage staff to complete daily jobs
  • Demonstrated extensive ability to complete site specific paperwork, interpret construction plans and specifications, manage overall quality of the works undertaken and monitor jobs costs
  • The legal right to live and work in Australia
  • To be able to demonstrate your competence in relation to all of the Selection Criteria as detailed in the Position Description

About the Department

The Works Department falls within the Infrastructure, Assets and Projects Directorate. The purpose of the Department is to deliver essential services to the community by planning, designing, constructing and maintaining roads, bridges, culverts, stormwater infrastructure, kerb and channel, footpaths and street lighting. In addition, the Works Department provides services to the Department of Transport and Main Roads under contract to maintain sections of the state-controlled road network within Southern Downs. The Department further governs activities conducted by members of the community, such as the construction of private driveway accesses.
