Key competencies (role specific criteria)
You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:
- Knowledge and skills in the provision of contemporary public health microbiological/virological testing, particularly as this applies to molecular epidemiology including genomics for notifiable and emerging bacterial and viral pathogens.
- Knowledge and skills in genomic and metagenomic methods in particular for application to microbial detection and typing.
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills for contributing to laboratory specific documents including research reports, databases, emailing staff and clients and working with LIMS.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to a laboratory service that is compliant with NATA/NPAAC/ISO/IEC17025/15189 quality accreditation, standard methods and relevant regulatory guidelines and professional standards.
Qualifications, registrations, and other requirements
- The successful applicant must hold at least a recognised tertiary degree (or equivalent) qualification in science majoring in Microbiology, Virology or Molecular Genomics.
- While not mandatory, experience in working in a genomics scientific team is highly desirable.
- Please detail any visa conditions you may have if you are not a permanent resident of Australia.
- The position will be utilised at times to assist in the delivery of a 24-hour, 7-day public health services. All newly appointed staff are engaged with the understanding that they may be required to work any rostered shift within the 24-hour 7-day roster period, including overtime as required and participate in an On-call roster.
