About the role
This role is more than just striking an arc — it’s about shaping the future of our welding workforce. As the Training & Development Supervisor, you'll play a critical role in developing technical skills, promoting safety, and mentoring our welders across all levels. You’ll drive training programs that enhance capability, ensure compliance, and uphold our commitment to excellence across all welding disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver hands-on training and coaching in MIG, TIG and Flux-Cored welding across a range of materials including mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium, and duplex/exotic alloys.

Design and implement structured, progressive training programs aligned with industry standards (e.g. AS/NZS) and internal competency goals.

Conduct skills assessments and maintain training records, ensuring welders meet competency benchmarks in line with national vocational frameworks.

Support the onboarding of new welders, ensuring smooth integration into our processes and quality expectations.

Collaborate with supervisors and production leads to identify skills gaps and implement upskilling plans.

Promote a strong safety culture by embedding safe work practices and standards in all training sessions.

Mentor apprentices and qualified tradespeople, offering guidance, support, and leadership on the floor.

Assist in maintaining compliance with welding procedures, inspection requirements, and customer standards.

About You

You’re a seasoned welder with a passion for passing on your knowledge. You’ve worked in demanding industrial environments, earned the respect of your peers, and are now ready to lead, train, and develop the next generation of welding professionals.

Requirements

Essential:

Trade-qualified welder/boilermaker with broad experience in MIG, TIG and Flux-Cored processes.

Proven experience mentoring or training others in a workshop, industrial, or formal setting.

Strong communication and leadership skills — you're confident working with apprentices through to highly experienced tradespeople.

In-depth knowledge of welding safety, standards, procedures, and quality requirements.

Highly Desirable:

Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116 or TAE40110 with upgrades).

Previous experience in a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) or internal training role.

Familiarity with AS/NZS 1554, ISO 9606, or similar welding standards.

Welding inspector qualifications (e.g. CSWIP, WTIA) beneficial but not essential.

Experience with weld testing, visual inspection, and prequalification procedures.
