Primary Objective:
In consultation with the Principal and Catholic Education Northern Territory (CENT), the Finance Manager leads the College in the delivery of strong financial sustainability and accountability. This includes preparing and reviewing financial reports, preparations for internal and external audit and oversight of all day-to-day finance activities.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Deliver expert advice and leadership in financial accountability.
2. Maintaining effective relationships with school-based employees, suppliers and CENT based employees.
3. Providing timely periodic financial reports with insightful analysis into results, highlighting any emerging risks that need to be addressed.
4. Preparation and monitoring of realistic budgets, including reporting regularly against actual results achieved.
5. Management and monitoring the emerging cash needs of the school.
6. Management of the annual audit processes.
7. Ensuring all day-to day finance activities are performed such as Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Banking, Asset Management, Taxes and all other operational finance functions as required.
8. Managing ABSTUDY Funding and Debt Collection.
9. Overseeing Grant Applications, KPIs, and Acquittals.
10. Managing Payroll and HR Onboarding Services.
11. Identifying and contributing to the continuous improvement of policies, procedures and practices.
12. Lead and manage the Finance Team and work in close collaboration with the Operations Manager to support the non-financial administration requirements of the College.
13. Supporting the Principal in leading the College as a member of the Strategic Leadership Team and the College Advisory Board.
14. Supporting the Principal and CENT in the development of St John’s Master Plan project and Strategic Plan.
15. Other duties as directed.
Essential Criteria:
The following selection criteria are required to achieve the outcomes in the context of this position. Applicants will need to provide evidence of their capacity to transfer their knowledge and skills achieving the outcomes of this position:
1. Tertiary qualifications in accounting.
2. Membership of a professional accounting body (or partially complete).
3. Demonstrated experience in financial and accounting operations.
4. Knowledge and experience in budgeting and financial reporting.
5. Written, interpersonal and negotiation skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and influence results.
6. Demonstrated conceptual and analytical skills to operate in an environment managing teams and confidential sensitive information.
7. An understanding of and commitment to the ethos of Catholic education.
8. NT Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card) or willing to obtain.
Desirable Criteria:
1. Experience in a financial role within a school environment.
2. Experience in management of staff.
3. Experience in working with stakeholders from a diversity of backgrounds.
WHS Responsibilities
1. Perform work at all times in a safe manner and comply with all workplace safety standards, policies and procedures.
2. Take reasonable care to ensure their own safety and not place others at risk by any act or omission.
3. Actively engage in the consultation process and taking part in WHS risk management programs to improve safety.
