Job location
Our Corporate Office is located at Thomas Embling Hospital just 15 minutes north of the city. Due to our announced expansion across all Directorates, we have a need for experienced like-minded professionals to join our team to support our growing services. Our Directorates includes Thomas Embling Hospital, Prison Operations and our Community Directorate with highly skilled disciplines including Nursing, Lived Experience, Occupational Therapy, Psychiatry, Psychologists and Social Work. We have an outstanding L&D and discipline Educator co-hort that continually upskill our already skilled and supportive team.
About the Role:
As a member of the P&C team, the Business Partner will provide internal P&C consultancy and advisory services to help build people management capability of all levels of the organisation. The Business Partner will provide accurate and timely best practice P&C services and support to management and staff. They will triage enquiries to the appropriate person in P&C as required. As a hands-on P&C generalist, they will make a significant contribution to the P&C team embracing business partnering, talent acquisition, industrial and employee relations, OHS and wellbeing organisation change and development, and performance management. The Business Partner will work closely with the Senior Employee Relations Consultant to ensure consistency of approach and advice.
Duties:
- Build and maintain effective relationships to ensure the implementation and application of P&C strategies, frameworks, policies, procedures and practices, in the context of a business partnership service delivery model.
- Partner with managers and supervisors to build people leadership practice capability through providing coaching, advice and assistance on people management, including change management to strengthen managers’ skills and capability.
- Provide sound and authoritative advice across a range of IR, ER and OHS issues, including performance management, employee welfare, grievances, dispute resolution, EEO, safety and wellbeing, disciplinary matters and career development.
- Provide accurate interpretation of enterprise agreements, awards, industrial regulations and Forensicare policy and procedures.
- Partner with the TA team to support supervisors and managers on recruitment and employment processes in line with Forensicare policies and procedures.
- Actively contribute to the development and review of HR policies and processes, pursuing and reporting services and business improvements;
- Contribute to or lead HR projects and initiatives under the P&C strategies and as otherwise required.
About You:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Human resources, Employee Relations or equivalent
- Demonstrated experience in interpreting and applying industrial agreements, awards, legal advice and other relevant legislation.
- Demonstrated contemporary industry knowledge as a generalist human resources professional
- Significant experience in providing accurate Human Resources policy and employment law advice to managers to develop practical workplace solutions.
- Demonstrated experience in managing employee relations matters
- Excellent time management, including the ability to prioritise and manage a wide range of tasks within tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills to gain the confidence and cooperation of employees, managers and other stakeholders to facilitate solutions and deliver positive outcomes.

Our story
Forensicare (Victorian Institute of Forensic Mental Health) is the state-wide specialist provider of forensic mental health services in Victoria. Forensicare is the only agency in Victoria that provides clinical forensic mental health services which span all components of the mental health and criminal justice sectors – giving Forensicare a unique perspective on mental health and public safety issues. It is able to provide specialist forensic mental health services tailored to meet the specific needs of both sectors.
We provide forensic mental health services for people:
with a serious mental illness in the criminal justice system
at risk of offending who pose a risk to themselves or others
referred from the general mental health system for specialist advice, support and/or treatment.
Forensicare’s primary focus is the provision of clinical services within a recovery framework. These services include the effective assessment, treatment and management of forensic patients, prisoners and clients.
