What You Need To Know About This Role

As the Business Manager, you will be a key part of the leadership team — driving strategic direction, operational excellence, and a business performance through relationships and output. Your role is operationally hands-on, heavily strategic/forward focussed, and community-facing. You’ll be responsible for:

Developing and executing a regional growth strategy aligned with business goals and customer/grower/key account needs.

Interpreting financial, customer, and operational data to make commercial decisions and identify opportunities for PY Ag on a consistent basis.

Overseeing the delivery of highest quality services and experiences across every customer, account and grower touchpoint.

Driving innovation and efficiency across sales, operations, and customer engagement via leadership of field days, R&D, relevant industry forums and day to day connection with clients.

Representing the PY Agronomy business in the community — building relationships with growers, industry, and regional stakeholders with purposeful and outcome-based direction.

Taking ownership of financial performance and productivity metrics to inform decisions and drive performance for growers and internally.

Lead the technological optimisation of the business from specialised software (such as Back Paddock) and business efficiency software for sales, performance, logistics and asset management.

Contributing to the coaching and development of the PY Ag team including agronomists, administration and associated contractors to ensure the delivery exceptional value.

What We’re Looking For

You’re a natural business leader who combines commercial acumen with operational horsepower. You are passionate about regional growth, agriculture and a customer-first environment. You’ll bring:

Experience leading teams and operations in a commercial setting — ideally in agriculture, ag retail, or regional business.

Strong capability across sales, grower experience, business operations, and business improvement. A focus on sustainability and innovation is essential in a fast paced and busy operation, with an eye for detail and quality control.

A strategic mindset with the ability to work hands-on, adapt quickly, and drive outcomes.

Commercial account management, growth and expansion is critical. Must be able to network effectively, raise the profile and customer base of PY Ag and show drive in sales and business acumen.

Financial literacy essential and data-driven decision-making skills, with strong reporting and analytical skill to deliver Board level reports.

A genuine passion for and knowledge of the agricultural industry and rural business, including regional and client growth.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills — you know how to build trust and lead from the front, calling a spade a spade and speaking influentially in all forums with all stakeholders.

Desirable Skills & Experience

Previous experience in agri-business, ag retail, or service-based regional businesses.

Experience leading budgets, planning cycles, and performance metrics.

Ability to identify new growth opportunities through market trends and customer insights.

An understanding of the seasonal nature of agriculture and what it means to support growers year-round.

Tertiary qualifications in business, agriculture, or a related field (preferred but not essential).
