The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare. As an Agency, we support more than 600,000 participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability. A new role awaits

The Finance Business Partner team is responsible for the provision of strategic financial advice to assist with decision making through management reporting and forecasting and acting as a connection between the business and the Branch on matters affecting the Agency in the finance domain.

The APS6 Finance Business Partner (Professional Stream) is accountable under broad direction to undertake complex work that delivers quality outcomes across the Finance functions of the NDIA.

The position is an important team leadership position within the NDIA and will have delegated authority and responsibility to resolve issues and risks across wideranging activities of substantial depth involving significant detail. The role requires providing leadership, control, planning, resource management, performance management and decision making for the Team Membership and assigned Contractors working within the Work Area.

The APS6 Finance Business Partner will exercise a considerable degree of independence to engage in complex problem solving and issues management within the financial functions.

The position requires exercising sound decision-making and judgement to produce high level policy advice and operational support. The position is required to coordinate and assume responsibility to undertake detailed or sensitive projects that may include performing varied activities involving many different and unrelated processes or methods that may impact on the strategic or operational outcomes that support the NDIA’s objectives to “build a world-leading National Disability Insurance Scheme”.

  • Perform end of month reporting activities, including journal preparation and posting, transaction analysis, management reporting, distribution to group stakeholders and meeting to present to stakeholders
  • Preparation of workforce allocation data to allocate project workforce against WBS allocations, and providing input to project forecasts
  • Working with business to assist with budget allocations and phasings each month, as well as assisting business with completing Resource Committee submissions
  • Ensure financial record accuracy, including regular GL, cost centre, PO review and amendment, when required.
  • Stakeholder engagement including regular meetings with key stakeholders.
  • Support the analysis for financial decision making.
  • Assist business with the internal budget process.
  • Assist with project delivery within the portfolio/branch and contribute SME knowledge.
  • Proactively drive innovation and improvements to promote better practice
  • Perform ad hoc tasks appropriate to the level and support the leadership team.
  • Team management where applicable to APS4 and APS5 employees.

Additionally, you will possess highly developed stakeholder engagement skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are also essential, as you will be working closely with senior leaders and other stakeholders.

Our ideal candidate will have sound accounting knowledge with proficiency in SAP R1P and SAP BW and/or SAP BI. a demonstrated understanding of the government financial environment, experience in developing reports & dashboards for presenting to Senior Management.

Additionally, you will have a demonstrated ability to engage in complex problem solving and issues management. Prior experience leading teams, as well as strong time management skills. Experience working with various systems such as SAS Enterprise Guide, SAP Financial systems and Microsoft suite will hold you in good stead.

Mandatory qualifications

This position is within the professional job stream and the officer must possess relevant academic qualifications with membership of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA) or Certified Practicing Accountants (CPA); together with extensive direct finance experience performing and delivering complex financial and governance outcomes.

While this role is ideally performed from DEAKIN, ACT, Geelong - VIC or Richmond -VIC remote working arrangements may be considered. We intend to fill this role in an ongoing capacity, however non-ongoing roles up to 12 months with the possibility of extension up to 2 years may be offered.

Successful candidates will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police History check, Worker Screening check and/or Working with Children Check (where required) and provide evidence of Australian Citizenship.
