Harbour Early Learning Aranda Kitchen Assistant

Harbour Early Learning is state of the art early learning centre. Our landmark building is nestled in Bindel Street, Aranda surrounded by natural landscapes and supportive surrounding communities. We are a 138-place centre, and our opening hours are Monday to Friday from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm. We are open 52 weeks a year, except for Public Holidays.

We are seeking an experienced Kitchen Assistant to work alongside our Chef/Cook in a pristine, brand-new kitchen. The position is part-time, with potential for extended hours in the future, Monday to Friday from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM (negotiable).

Qualifications & Experience

Preferable requirement Certificate III in Food Handling or equivalent qualification.

Food Safety Supervisor certification or Food Handler Basics training, or willingness to obtain.

Current First Aid, CPR and Anaphylaxis and Asthma Management Training, or willingness to obtain.

Working with Vulnerable People card.

Previous experience working as a kitchen assistant in a residential or professional kitchen environment.

Passion for nutrition and children’s development.

Tasks & Responsibilities

Ability to follow, prepare and assist the Chef/Cook in the creation of our nutritional menus alongside selected nutritionists, such as Babble (baby food bible), including breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and late snack.

Ensure that meals and snacks are well presented and appropriate for each age group.

Ability to understand and maintain high food safety standards and procedures, including personal and workplace hygiene.

Ability to stock control and prepare and order from shopping lists.

Be well familiar with children’s allergies and dietary requirements, including food preferences and cultural considerations, and be mindful of those requirements when storing, organising, preparing and serving food.

Good time management skills are essential to ensure that mealtimes run smoothly, and that kitchen and our catering budget are managed efficiently.

Ability to communicate and work collaboratively as a member of a team.

Ability to assist the implementation of cooking experiences with children.

Build strong relationships with the centre’s Chef/Cook and the entire centre community.

Follow centre’s philosophy, policies and procedures.
