Key responsibilities

In the role you will take the lead in the management and administration of TMR's compliance of the information access provisions within the Right to Information Act 2009 and Information Privacy Act 2009. Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Exercising decision-making powers under the Right to Information Act 2009 and Information Privacy Act 2009 (the Acts).
  • Engaging with key internal and external stakeholders and representing the department by establishing strategic relationships with other state and local government agencies, including the Office of the Information Commissioner (OIC).
  • Leading the development, implementation and on-going support of policies, processes and systems required to ensure the department meets the requirements of the Acts.
  • Identifying the department's educational needs in relation to information access and developing material and delivering training sessions to enhance compliance with information access provisions relating to right to information, information privacy and administrative release.
  • Preparing quality reports and correspondence, including detailed decision notices, advice on issues arising from access applications, Ministerial and Director-General briefs, disclosure log scopes and external review submissions to the OIC.

Mandatory qualifications and conditions

  • Due to this role having access to sensitive data, a criminal history check will be undertaken prior to appointment to the role.

Requirements of the role

  • Demonstrated high-level decision-making skills on complex and sensitive Right to Information and Information Privacy access applications and proficiency in providing advice to internal and external stakeholders about the release of information.
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills and leadership capabilities, including the development and performance management of staff as well as the ability to function and contribute effectively in a team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, a high level of emotional intelligence and the necessary skills to build and maintain effective relationships within a team as well as with management and stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to self-manage a complex and high-volume workload with multiple competing deadlines.
