About the Role
As the Manager Community Safety, you will lead a dedicated team responsible for compliance, community education, crime prevention and emergency management. You will deliver key programs under a wide range of legislative frameworks, contribute to strategic planning, and act as the Local Emergency Management Officer during critical events.
Your leadership will help enhance neighbourhood safety, encourage responsible behaviours, and strengthen community resilience.
What You’ll Do
Manage Council’s regulatory and inspection services across multiple Acts including the Companion Animals Act, Protection of the Environment Operations Act, Local Government Act and more.
Oversee and mentor a small team of Compliance Officers.
Deliver proactive compliance and education programs around pet ownership, parking, environmental protection, development compliance and more.
Chair the Local Emergency Management Committee and act as Council’s Local Emergency Management Officer.
Provide expert advice to internal teams and build effective relationships with key external stakeholders including NSW Police, RSPCA, EPA, local businesses and the broader community.
Drive continuous improvement and support the delivery of Gunnedah’s Crime Prevention Plan.
About You
We’re looking for someone who is:
A confident communicator and proven team leader with strong planning and regulatory expertise.
Passionate about building safe, sustainable, and connected communities.
Calm under pressure and experienced in emergency or incident management.
Skilled in stakeholder engagement and compliance education.
Ethical, accountable, and aligned with Council’s core values of leadership, integrity, equity, and community.
What You’ll Bring
Essential:
Diploma or Certificate IV in Government Investigations or Regulatory Control (or willingness to obtain).
Demonstrated leadership experience, ideally in regulatory compliance or local government.
Strong understanding of relevant legislation and policy.
Experience in emergency management, compliance programs, or crime prevention.
Current NSW Class C Driver’s Licence.
Desirable:
Recognised emergency management qualifications.
Experience preparing briefs of evidence and leading investigations.
Qualifications in environmental health, building, planning or related fields.
E1 Pool Certifier or plumbing inspector accreditation.
First Aid and White Card certifications.

Annual Salary starting from $104,814.84 + Superannuation
