Come for a career and stay for a lifestyle!

Are you passionate about building safer, more connected communities? Do you have the skills to lead place-based initiatives, foster partnerships, and drive meaningful change? If so, the City of Karratha has an exciting opportunity for you!

We are seeking a motivated and community-minded Community Safety Officer to lead the coordination, development and delivery of our Community Safety Plan. This pivotal role works across all corners of the City – from policy to partnerships, strategy to street-level safety – ensuring our residents feel safe, supported, and heard.

About the Role

As our Community Safety Officer, you’ll be the driving force behind the City’s safety programs and initiatives. You will work closely with internal departments, local services, emergency responders, and community groups to design and deliver programs that reflect the priorities of our community.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating the Community Safety portfolio, including implementation of the Community Safety Plan
  • Building and maintaining effective partnerships with WA Police, DFES, community stakeholders, and volunteers
  • Leading community engagement on safety-related issues and encouraging local participation
  • Administering policies, managing budgets, reporting outcomes, and seeking funding opportunities
  • Liaising with key stakeholders to design and deliver innovative, place-based crime prevention strategies

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for someone who is a natural communicator, collaborator, and problem-solver, with a solid understanding of community safety principles. You’ll thrive in a role that mixes strategy and hands-on delivery and will bring fresh ideas and proven experience to the table.

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in community safety, crime prevention or a related field
  • Strong project and contract management capabilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders
  • High-level problem-solving, negotiation, and planning skills
  • Experience managing budgets and delivering on strategic objectives
  • Relevant tertiary qualification (desirable), plus a current driver’s licence and required clearances

Why Join Us?

At the City of Karratha, we’re not just about delivering services — we’re about creating a vibrant, safe, and thriving future for our community. In return for your skills and passion, we offer:

  • A supportive, values-driven workplace
  • Professional development opportunities
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Competitive salary and benefits
  • The chance to make a visible difference across our community
