The Role

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Production Manager to take full ownership of factory operations at Austruck X. You will lead a cross-functional team of fabricators, welders, painters and finishers, ensuring the seamless delivery of custom builds from design through to delivery. Your leadership will drive operational excellence, workforce efficiency, and a culture of safety and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Factory Leadership & Workflow Coordination

Manage end-to-end factory operations including fabrication, welding, painting, fit-out, and final inspection

Plan and oversee daily/weekly production schedules in alignment with sales orders and customer deadlines

Supervise daily job allocations, labour resources, and equipment utilisation to maximise output

Team Management & Development

Lead, motivate, and support team leaders and tradespeople across all departments

Manage employee performance, training, and development, including onboarding of new staff

Foster a strong team culture focused on accountability, safety, and pride in workmanship

Develop and maintain up-to-date work instructions and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all major production processes.

Safety, Quality & Compliance

Enforce WHS protocols and ensure compliance with all workplace safety standards

Monitor product quality at each stage of the build process and implement corrective actions where necessary

Champion continuous improvement initiatives to reduce rework and improve efficiency

Stock, Tools & Maintenance Oversight

Ensure jobs are assigned with correct materials and tooling

Monitor inventory levels and work with stock controller and procurement to avoid delays

Oversee maintenance of factory machinery and ensure availability of functional tools

Cross-Department Collaboration & Reporting

Work closely with Design, Sales, Planning, and Admin teams to ensure jobs are built to spec and on schedule

Review job progress and maintain real-time updates in production tracking systems

Report weekly on KPIs including build rates, staff productivity, safety incidents, and delivery timelines

Skills and Experience

5+ years' experience in a senior production or factory management role within a truck body building, trailer manufacturing, or heavy vehicle environment

Trade background in fabrication, mechanical, or body building (required)

Proven track record managing and motivating factory teams across multiple departments

Strong knowledge of production planning, job tracking, and workflow management

Ability to interpret technical drawings and build specifications

Sound understanding of WHS compliance, quality control, and lean manufacturing principles

Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills

Experience using factory job management systems or ERP software
