We are looking for a detail-oriented and analytical Cost Accountant to join our clients' established construction business. This role is vital in helping them manage project costs effectively, capitalise accordingly, improve financial performance, and ensure transparency in cost reporting across all phases of construction projects.
As a key member of the finance team, and working closely with the tax function, you will be responsible for tracking, analysing, and reporting on project costs, supporting budgeting and forecasting processes, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations and internal policies.
Key Responsibilities:
Track and monitor construction project costs, including materials, labour, subcontractors, equipment, and overhead.
Prepare accurate job cost reports and variance analyses to support project managers and senior leadership.
Allocate costs to specific construction projects and ensure accurate journal entries and reconciliations.
Develop and maintain project cost accounting systems and procedures.
Support month-end and year-end closing processes related to cost accounting.
Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts for individual projects and company-wide financial planning.
Identify cost-saving opportunities (tax) and provide data-driven recommendations to improve financial efficiency.
Develop and maintain cost capitalization policy across the group
Review and maintenance of Fixed asset schedule for accounting and tax
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Experience in cost accounting, preferably in the construction industry, not FMCG or Manufacturing
Strong understanding of cost accounting principles and job costing in a project-based environment.
Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking skills.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
CA or CPA qualified
Experience with ERP systems or construction-specific financial platforms.
Familiarity with construction contracts and project management workflows.
