At Open Futures Disability Services (OFDS), we’re passionate about providing high-quality, person-centred care to individuals with disabilities and mental health challenges. We are currently seeking male Disability Support Workers with mental health experience and a strong understanding of the challenges of reintegration for individuals leaving the prison system, based in the Wacol area.

About the Role:
As a Disability Support Worker in the Wacol area, you’ll be supporting a participant reintegrating into the community after being released from prison. With mental health experience, you’ll be able to offer the support needed for this transition, helping the participant develop healthy routines, engage in community activities, and achieve their personal goals. You will be a key part of their journey to independence and stability.
Your Responsibilities:
Provide personal care, medication support, and meal preparation.
Support the participant in attending appointments, shopping, and accessing community services – helping them reintegrate into society and regain independence.
Offer support with mental health, providing care and understanding as they adjust to their new life outside of prison.
Assist with household tasks such as cleaning, tidying, and maintaining a comfortable, safe living environment.
Promote social inclusion by encouraging the participant to engage in community activities and rebuild relationships.
Follow care plans, report concerns, and ensure the best possible outcomes for the participant.
What We’re Looking For:
We need compassionate, reliable, and flexible individuals who understand the unique challenges faced by individuals transitioning out of incarceration. You’ll be supporting someone through their journey to mental health stability and independence, so a calm, empathetic, and flexible approach is key.
Mandatory Requirements:
Experience in mental health support and working with individuals transitioning from incarceration.
First Aid & CPR Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
Certificate III in Individual Support (or equivalent experience).
Working with Children Check (Blue Card) and NDIS Worker Screening Card (Yellow Card) (or willingness to obtain).
Valid Australian driver’s licence and your own vehicle with comprehensive car insurance.
Preferred (but not essential):
Manual handling training.
Medication administration training.
Experience in disability support, mental health, or working with individuals transitioning from prison.

Job Type: Casual (with the potential for full-time for the right candidates)
Pay: $32.79 – $43.08 per hour
Expected Hours: 20 - 36 hours per week
