Sisters in the City are looking for casual support workers (multiple vacancies) who match their values and beliefs. We have work available in the following suburbs - Fortitude Valley, Carina Heights, Lawnton, Capalaba, Milton & Paddington. As a values based organisation that are seeking Support Workers who are able to care for both young individuals and adults living with a disability through meeting support needs to enhance physical, social, emotional and intellectual development in their own home and out in the community. All of our participants have profound mental health concerns and so an ability to compartmentalise any behaviours of concern and report on issues for management would be very important for the successful candidate(s). Sisters in the City identifies as specialist provider for the LGBT+ community and so the successful candidate must identify as a part of this community or as an ally. We specifically require support workers with lived or learned experience in mental health support work who are willing to attend to NDIS participant personal cares as well.
The duties and responsibilities of a Support Worker are unique and varied because those we support have unique needs. Whilst this can be a diverse role, the focus is always on supporting a person to lead a fulfilling and more independent life. Previous experience in the delivery of personal cares, hoisting and working with clients with mental health conditions would be advantageous.
Sisters in the City has shifts available in the following locations:
Carina Heights (Community Access & In-home cleaning)
Fortitude Valley (including complex mental health support)
Lawnton (multiple clients and staff required)
Milton & Paddington (complex male clients with histories of behaviours of concern)
Capalaba (complex mental health client requiring female staff only with knowledge of DID & psychosis)
Working with Sisters in the City to provide support to their clients, the successful candidate will meet the below requirements.
Essential requirements
Great communication skills.
A current paid working with children blue card.
A current paid Disability Services Yellow Card OR an NDIS Worker Screening Clearance.
A current first aid and CPR certification.
Completed or willing to complete the NDIS Worker Orientation module.
Availability to work a range of shifts including sleepovers and weekends.
A Certificate 3 in Individual Support or similar.
Desirable requirements
Lived or learned experience in mental health support.
Those with a mental health first aid certificate or similar qualification would be highly regarded.
Disability sector experience.
A registered and insured car.
A police check valid within the last three years.

Remuneration will be in accordance with the relevant level of the social and community services award with a minimum rate of $41.76 p/hr (for those with a relevant certificate 3 or higher).
