About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Caseworker - Foster Carer Support to play a pivotal role in recruiting, developing, and supporting carers within the Permanency Support Program (PSP).
This role is essential in ensuring carers are well-equipped to provide high-quality, tailored care to children and young people in Out of Home Care.
Working closely with the case management team, the Foster Carer Support will identify, assess, and support carers to provide safe, loving, and nurturing home environments.
The role will also involve facilitating training, compliance checks, and development programs to strengthen carer capability.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the recruitment and assessment of foster carers, ensuring a diverse and well-trained pool of carers.
- Conduct comprehensive home visits, interviews, and carer authorisation reviews.
- Develop and deliver pre-authorisation and ongoing training for carers, ensuring they are confident and prepared.
- Provide ongoing support, coaching, and mentoring to carers, including supervision and crisis intervention.
- Ensure best-practice standards in child safety, trauma-informed care, and cultural competency.
- Monitor carer well-being and implement retention strategies.
- Advocate for children’s safety, well-being, and permanency goals in care placements.
- Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, including community organisations, government agencies, and service providers.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records compliant with regulatory and organisational policies.
Essential Criteria
- Degree in Social Work, Social Science, Psychology, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in child protection, foster care, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in conducting carer assessments, training, and support.
- Strong knowledge of the Permanency Support Program, child protection legislation, and OCG accreditation standards.
- Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care, child development, and attachment theory.
- Strong report writing, case note documentation, and compliance skills.
- Ability to manage conflict resolution and handle difficult conversations.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends.
- Current NSW Working with Children Check (WWCC) and National Police Check.
- NSW Driver’s Licence and access to a vehicle with comprehensive insurance.
Desirable Criteria
- Fluency in a community language.
- Step by Step or Winangay training
