Foster & Kinship Case Practitioner – Ipswich, Toowoomba & Surrounds
Join DCC Industry Group as we launch our newly awarded Foster & Kinship Care Program in Queensland’s South West.
DCC Industry Group is proud to have been selected to deliver a new Foster and Kinship Care Program across the South West region of Queensland. This opportunity reflects our commitment to delivering culturally responsive, community-led, and person-centred care that empowers children, families, and carers.
About the Role:
As a Foster & Kinship Case Practitioner, you will play a key role in the recruitment, assessment, training, and ongoing support of foster and kinship carers. Your primary focus will be to ensure the safety, wellbeing, and cultural needs of children and young people in out-of-home care are met in accordance with the Child Protection Act 1999 (Qld), Practice Standards, and DCC’s cultural values.
This role requires a culturally competent, trauma-informed, and strengths-based approach to case management and carer support. You will collaborate with families, community members, government and non-government partners to ensure every placement is stable, safe, and nurturing. You will also uphold the best interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children by embedding the five elements of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Placement Principle (ATSICPP) across all aspects of practice.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct carer recruitment activities, initial enquiries, and information sessions in culturally safe and accessible ways.
Complete comprehensive assessments of foster and kinship carer applicants, including Renewal of Approval and Quality of Care reviews.
Deliver pre-service and ongoing training to carers, ensuring alignment with departmental expectations and cultural competency principles.
Provide regular supervision, advocacy, and responsive case support to foster and kinship carers to promote placement stability and meet the evolving needs of children in care.
Monitor placement suitability and work collaboratively with Child Safety to manage risk, implement case plans, and support reunification or permanency planning.
Engage children, families, and carers with respect and sensitivity, ensuring their voices and cultural identity remain central to decision-making processes.
Maintain accurate records, case notes, and reports in compliance with legislative requirements and DCC’s quality and safety systems.
Advocate for and apply the ATSICPP, ensuring cultural connection, community participation, and self-determination are upheld for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.
Build and maintain meaningful relationships with Elders, community members, and cultural advisors to guide practice and enrich carer support.
Participate in cultural supervision, reflective practice, and continuous improvement activities to enhance service quality and team cohesion.
Qualifications & Experience:
Tertiary qualification in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, or related field.
Minimum of two years' experience in child protection, out-of-home care, or family support roles.
Strong knowledge of Queensland’s legislative and policy framework in foster and kinship care.
Proven experience working in or alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Skilled in case management, assessment, risk identification, and trauma-informed care.
Current Queensland C Class Driver’s Licence, Blue Card, and First Aid & CPR (or willingness to obtain).
Cultural Consideration:
This position is prioritised for applicants who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, in recognition of the vital importance of cultural knowledge, lived experience, and community connection in foster care delivery. This is a genuine occupational requirement under Section 105 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld). Non-Indigenous applicants may be considered in subsequent recruitment rounds if no suitable Indigenous candidates are identified initially.
