Adecco is recruiting on behalf of our client for an innovative and hands-on Senior Scientist to join their growing research and development team. This is an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of scientific innovation—designing, building, and refining advanced ion detection systems that are used globally in cutting-edge research and diagnostics.

About Us

Our client is a leader in the field of scientific instrumentation and ion detection, dedicated to pushing the boundaries of technology through deep scientific research and advanced engineering. With a focus on excellence and innovation, their collaborative R&D team plays a key role in developing and commercialising proprietary electron optical systems and high-performance detection technologies.

Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll be an integral part of the R&D function, contributing to the development of novel ion detection technology. You'll work across multiple disciplines—bringing together physics, electron optics, and product development—to deliver next-generation products. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and developing advanced ion detection systems using proprietary electron optical platforms.
  • Leading development projects from concept through to production handover.
  • Performing simulations and analysis using internal tools and standard engineering software.
  • Driving innovation by identifying new opportunities, contributing to IP generation, and challenging existing designs.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including researchers, engineers, and external partners.
  • Preparing comprehensive documentation including technical specifications, design justifications, and testing procedures.
  • Supporting prototype builds, testing, and data analysis to validate system performance.
  • Maintaining a strong focus on workplace health and safety.

A typical day in this role will involve problem-solving at the cutting edge of science—whether you're building out a new concept, testing a prototype in the lab, or discussing new research ideas with international partners.

Your Profile

The ideal candidate will bring a strong scientific mindset, creative thinking, and a passion for hands-on development. To be considered, you’ll need:

  • Full working rights in Australia (citizenship or permanent residency).
  • PhD in Physics or related field (Bachelor’s or Master’s with extensive experience may be considered).
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in ion detection, electron optics, or mass spectrometry.
  • Proficiency in scientific simulation tools (Monte Carlo simulations, Matlab, LabVIEW, etc).
  • Demonstrated ability to innovate and contribute to intellectual property development.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills.
  • A positive, collaborative attitude and a drive for excellence.

What's on Offer?

This role offers a competitive salary of up to $150,000 (commensurate with experience) and a unique opportunity to contribute to world-class scientific development. You’ll be working within a passionate, high-performing R&D team and be part of a growing company that is making a global impact through innovation.
