The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare. As an Agency, we support more than 600,000 participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability. For many Australians, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need. Are you a final year University student working towards your Actuarial, Mathematics or Statistics degree and interested in utilising your actuarial and data skills to create lasting changes for Australians living with disability? We have the role just for you at the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA).

The Analytics, Data & Actuarial Division at the NDIA provides information and advice on Scheme monitoring, financial sustainability and risks. They perform analysis and provide insights for the overall financial sustainability of the Scheme.
The role supports the Scheme Actuary to fulfil statutory requirements of the NDIS Act, together with other reporting, analysis and data management activities.

The Division also provides operational data, insights and analytics to all operational teams, driving service delivery performance. They produce the annual financial sustainability report and quarterly actuarial reports, and provide information and advice to the CEO and the Board.

This job is being offered as a Professional Stream role. Mandatory Qualifications apply for the Professional Stream:
For applications within the professional job stream the successful applicant must possess and maintain relevant academic qualifications including tertiary qualifications in Actuarial Studies or Mathematics, Statistics progressing towards Associate and/or Fellowship qualifications.

Where you can add value

The APS4 Actuary (Professional Stream) will have contact with a variety of stakeholders and will be required to provide advice on a range of matters to resolve moderately complex to complex enquiries.
The position will handle technical tasks involving data, considering alternative approaches to account for uncertainty.

Responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

• Reporting, analysis and data management activities.
• Extracting, cleansing and preparing data from multiple sources, particularly the data warehouse and advising on appropriate data checks for reasonableness.
• Updating and developing regular performance monitoring.
• Supporting the division to fulfil statutory requirements of the NDIS Act 2013 including the provision of data and analysis for reporting to the Board, Minister and for the purpose of public data sharing.
• Utilising and assisting in designing actuarial, statistical, and mathematical modelling techniques to undertake analytical work on a range of tasks. Including experience monitoring and analyses, data tabulations, preparing public dashboards, running Scheme projection models, scenario testing and other predictive modelling.
• Analysing Scheme experience as an input in the assumption setting process for the Scheme projections and other cost analysis.
• Preparation and technical review of tables, charts and commentary for inclusion in the AFSR, QRDM, Board papers and other reporting.

To be successful in the role, you will have experience in undertaking analytical work on a range of tasks, such as actuarial analysis, data tabulations, projections, cost benefit analyses, ad hoc modelling requests, and report production. You will have the opportunity to work across the various branches of the Division, to build your capability and apply your University studies as an Actuary. This role is an analyst position with responsibilities to support work within a team according to planned priorities.

While this role is ideally performed from Surry Hills - NSW and Richmond - VIC, remote working arrangements may be considered. We intend to fill this role in an ongoing capacity, however non-ongoing roles up to 12 months with the possibility of extension up to 2 years may be offered.

Successful candidates will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police History check, Worker Screening check and/or Working with Children Check (where required) and provide evidence of Australian Citizenship.
