Environmental Officer
Mindarie Regional Council (MRC) is one of Western Australia’s biggest waste management authorities, providing a comprehensive waste disposal service to local government authorities and residents in the Perth Metro Area.
The Role, Environmental Officer provides assist to the MRC’s Environmental business in operating in a manner that meets or exceeds the environmental conditions of their respective regulatory requirements. Offers professional support to the team by undertaking environmental sampling and monitoring programs, data evaluation and reporting, rehabilitation and site assessments.
The Salary and Benefits, 6 month contract (38 hours per week) with the possibility of a permanent role on completion of the 6 month period. Annual salary $97k to $105k depending on the skills and experience of the successful applicant plus benefits that include:

Selection Criteria:
Qualifications
Appropriate Tertiary Qualification, on or demonstrated experience and Knowledge.
Training in any of the following areas would be advantageous:
o solid waste management.
o hazardous waste/dangerous goods management.
o Certified Australian Refrigeration Council trainer.
o Radiation.
Essential requirements:
Experience in the field of Environmental Management and/or Waste Management.
Experience in, or some exposure to, dealing with the waste management industry (contractors, regulators, operators) and negotiating outcomes aimed at protecting the environment in accordance with legislation and government requirements would be an advantage.
Knowledge of environmental and waste management principles and their practical application particularly regarding waste management.
High level research skills and the ability to critically analyse information to assist in decision making processes where required.
Working knowledge of environmental legislation, particularly in relation to waste management and contaminated sites.
Sound interpersonal and report writing skills with the ability to consult, clarify issues, provide information and attain satisfactory outcomes.
Demonstrated hands-on and proactive approach to tasks.
Ability to train staff in a range of environmental compliance attributes
The Council maintains a strong Wellness Policy with all staff subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

About Mindarie Regional Council
The Mindarie Regional Council (MRC) is Western Australia's largest Waste Management Authority, managing the disposal of over 250,000 tonnes of waste generated each year by people living in its seven government localities. These being the Cities of Joondalup, Perth, Stirling, Vincent and Wanneroo, and the Towns of Cambridge and Victoria Park.
Since early 1991, the region's household waste has been landfilled at the site operated by the MRC at Tamala Park, 35 km north of the centre of Perth. Some five million tonnes of waste have been sent to landfill at Tamala Park since operations began.
The MRC in particular deals with recovery and disposal of waste from its member councils household green-lid wheelie bins. These bins contain general household waste.
