About the Role
This is a key leadership position reporting directly to the Director, responsible for managing and growing our capabilities in geological engineering, rock mechanics, and tunnelling. You will play a pivotal role in shaping our technical direction, mentoring our team, and delivering exceptional outcomes on significant infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
· Lead and manage complex geotechnical projects, particularly in tunnelling and rock mechanics, from initial concept through to delivery.
· Provide expert technical advice internally and to clients.
· Oversee and conduct geotechnical assessments, investigations, analyses, and design calculations.
· Develop and expand the team's technical capabilities to meet market needs in Australia and New Zealand.
· Manage project resources, budgets, scope, and ensure quality and H&S standards are met.
· Lead, mentor, and develop junior and intermediate engineering staff, fostering a culture of feedback and technical excellence.
· Establish and nurture key client relationships and contribute actively to business development and strategic direction.
· Ensure adherence to technical standards, codes of ethics (Engineers Australia & Engineering New Zealand), and our Integrated Management System.
About You
· Hold relevant tertiary qualifications in Engineering, ideally with Chartered Engineer status.
· Minimum 25 years of extensive experience in ground characterisation, excavation, and support design for complex infrastructure projects (e.g., transportation, energy/hydropower, water) across various project phases.
· Proven experience managing and delivering projects in diverse geological conditions.
· Functional expert with a growing industry reputation in geotechnical engineering, particularly rock mechanics and tunnelling.
· Demonstrated ability to lead projects and technical teams, manage resources, and mentor staff.
· Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical reporting skills.
· Excellent communication and client relationship management abilities.
· Experience working with both owners and contractors is highly desirable.
· International project experience and the ability to travel are advantageous.
· Expertise in at least one key technical area (e.g., Hard rock Tunnelling, Site Investigation, Retaining Wall Design, Slope Stability, Foundation Design, Ground Improvement, Finite element modelling).
