About the Role

Since our launch in January 2019, our successes have resulted in steady growth. We are looking for a highly motivated Fire Systems Design Engineer to join our team on a permanent, full-time basis.

The successful applicant will report directly to a company Director and will play a key role in the growth and development of the industrial fire safety stream of work.

This is a technical design role, with a focus on client relationships management, industrial fire systems design, site auditing and compliance with relevant standards. You will work with clients across a range of heavy industries including mining, mineral processing, chemical, oil and gas, ports and marine, aviation and transport.

Applicants must have a thorough understanding of the relevant Australian Standards, international standards (NFPA, ISO) and industry guidelines covering:

Fire hydrant systems including pumps, tanks and piping.

Fire suppression systems including large foam deluge suppression, sprinklers (including conveyor suppression), water deluge, water mist, gaseous suppression, wet and dry chemical.

Fire detection and alarm systems.

Passive fire protection.

We do not provide services to residential and commercial building services.

The successful applicant must be willing to travel for short business trips to client’s project office or operating sites as required.

Main Duties/Responsibilities

Design, plan, and oversee the installation of fire protection systems for various mining, oil/gas, power, petrochemical and heavy industrial projects.

Develop detailed fire protection system designs, including fire suppression, detection, and alarm systems, tailored to project requirements and compliance standards.

Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, clients and other stakeholders to integrate fire protection systems.

Conduct site assessments and audits to evaluate existing fire protection systems, identifying areas for improvement or modification.

Prepare fire system technical specifications, calculations, and documentation for tendering and construction purposes.

Ensure compliance with Australian and international standards, codes, regulations, guidelines and industry good practice in all designed systems.

Provide technical support and guidance to design team, drafting, installation and commissioning teams throughout the entire project phase.

Stay updated on emerging technologies, industry trends, and relevant regulations in the field of fire protection systems design.

Requirements

Higher education in fire safety, mechanical engineering or related field, or relevant QBCC license in fire system design, or relevant industry accreditation in fire system design.

Proven experience (5+ years’) in designing fire protection systems for mining, oil/gas, power, petrochemical and heavy industrial projects.

In-depth knowledge of Australian and international fire protection codes, standards, regulations, and industry best practices.

Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.

Familiarity with hydraulic calculations and fire modelling software is a plus.
