Oversee the delivery of a range of projects within ICT Services at Melbourne Polytechnic

This role is based out of our Preston Campus. We are close to public transport and provide secure onsite parking, onsite Café & restaurant with a gym facility, hair salon & we are only a 5-minute walk to the Preston market.

About the Role:

The Project Manager, ICT operates within Digital & Technology Experience (DTE) team under the
guidance of the Director Digital & Technology Experience (DTE)/CIO. This is a high performing role that
is responsible for undertaking engagement across a range of business portfolios and departments,
communicating directly with key Melbourne Polytechnic business stakeholders overseeing the
delivery of a range of projects within ICT Services such as Network, Audio-Visual, End user computing
and Systems and Enterprise Applications projects.

Duties:

Project and Portfolio management leadership in leading all aspects of the project lifecycle.

Clear articulation of project schedules, risks, issues, assumptions, decisions, costs and benefits.

Facilitate Project management throughout a project’s lifecycle including, Project Initiation, definition of project scope, project planning including milestones, tasks, and resource requirements, Project Execution, Project Monitoring and transition to business and Project Closure.

Manage, resolve or assist in the resolution of conflicts within and between projects or functional areas; develop methods to monitor project or area progress; and provide corrective supervision if necessary.

Lead the development and implementation of a broad, coordinated set of project plans and programs to meet the goals and priorities of the department.

Lead project workshops focused on specific agendas with various stakeholders, such as requirements gathering workshops, project execution and milestones.

Responsible for articulation of clear functional, non-functional requirements and technical requirements for projects in collaboration with the Business Analyst, Enterprise Architect and other project members.

Consult with key stakeholders to build relationships and coordinate project related activities.

Always manage stakeholder expectations with clear and concise communication.

Consult with DTE subject matter experts when developing the scope of work and coordinating project activities with Facilities & Assets and Vendors.

Leads the design, testing, planning, and implementation of complex systems related projects.

Lead the procurement activities and associated documentation related to projects and ensure procurement deliverables are met. Consult with Vendors following procurement guidelines, in coordination with DTE SME’s order equipment and monitor delivery timeframes to meet specific project related schedules.

Manage and report on projects as they develop, including the development of scope of work for each initiative, project plans, risk and issues registers, weekly project reports and project closure reports.

Follow a defined, agreed upon project management methodology.

Any other work commensurate to your role or requested by Director DTE/CIO.

Skills and Experience Required:

Undergraduate or post-graduate qualifications in a related area or minimum of 15 years ICT
project leadership experience in the delivery of projects associated with complex business
and technology change.

Significant experience and/or qualifications in leading project delivery utilising project
management methodologies such as Waterfall, Scrum, Agile, Kanban, Critical path method,
PRINCE2, Lean Project Management or Six Sigma.

Experience in leading a portfolio of projects covering Technical Change, ICT Servers &
Networks, Systems enhancements and implementation of new Software Applications.

Demonstrated high level capability to build professional relationships across the
organization and accurately manage stakeholder expectations using negotiation skills.

Proven hands-on and practical experience in the management and delivery of a range of
concurrent projects.

Advanced planning and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing demands
and meet stringent timelines; to plan, prioritise and coordinate activities and requirements
of internal and external stakeholders; provide advice; access and organise resources and
monitor, evaluate and improve project output.

Highly developed written, oral and interpersonal communication skills including the ability
to prepare correspondence and reports, deal professionally and tactfully with people from a
diverse range of backgrounds and effectively manage key stakeholder relationships.

Highly competent analytical and problem-solving skills including a demonstrated capacity to
show initiative and take responsibility for a broad range of activities and functions as well as
develop solutions to complex problems.

Experience in managing third party contract resources in supporting project delivery
including business and technical change management, data migration, testing and training.

High standard of proficiency in the use of software packages (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint,
Access, Microsoft Project, as well as the ability to present information in a variety of
formats, including reports and spreadsheets.

Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to Occupational Health and Safety, Anti-Discrimination, Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement.
