About the team:

Situated with the Planning and Regulation department, the City Standards branch is responsible for developing the City’s standards and local laws and issuing of City enforced permits to residents and organisations.

About your new role:

An exciting, rare opportunity has become available for an experienced Senior Building Certifier. You will certify the design and construction of buildings and structures in accordance with the Building Code of Australia and relevant acts, regulations and local laws. As well as provide professional and expert advice to Architects, Engineers, Builders, Consultants and the community in relation to building certification related matters.

Your responsibilities and duties will include, but are not limited to:

A demonstrated commitment to safety from both a leadership and personal perspective.

Perform all the functions of a Building Certifier and local government Certifier as detailed in the Building Act 1975.

The ability to demonstrate the Building Certification investigative skills and problem-solving skills.

Maintaining a pragmatic and proactive approach when dealing with stakeholders both internal and external.

Provide professional advice to both internal and external stakeholders in relation to building certification and building related enquiries.

Undertake building audits and produce audit building audit reports.

Attend all required inspections and meetings.

We're looking for people who have:

Bachelor of Building Surveying or equivalent knowledge

QBCC Licensed Building Certifier Level 2 (Endorsed)

Pool Safety Inspector Licence.

Drivers Licence Class C Unrestricted.

Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, with particular emphasis in the areas of consultation, negotiation, influencing, conflict resolution and assertiveness in order to resolve organisational issues and meet changing organisational needs relevant to Council’s role as a manager and regulator of the built environment.

Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to develop, coordinate and manage projects and resources effectively to achieve building certification and corporate goals in order to meet deadlines and commitments.

Demonstrated capacity to provide specialist expertise / advice in the discipline of building certification and in financial, human resource, operational, equipment and / or services(within the context of the role) to meet defined outcomes.

Demonstrated effective analytical, problem-solving skills and investigative skills with the ability to develop new techniques and methodologies, operational policies, practices and guidelines relevant to the role.

Demonstrated supervisory / management experience gained within a multi-disciplinary function including the ability to develop and motivate staff, provide expert advice, establish and monitor outcomes and establish procedures.

Knowledge of certifier liability issues and understanding of Council’s adopted officer protection and liability framework and policies.
