Whittlesea Community Connections (WCC) is a place based community agency that strives for the empowerment of individuals and groups within the local community who face disadvantage, isolation and obstacles to effective social and economic participation.

The Food Collective Café, launched by WCC in 2024, is a social enterprise aimed at providing training and employment pathways for young people and people from refugee and migrant backgrounds, supporting them to build confidence and develop skills in hospitality.

The principal responsibility of the Casual Barista/Café All Rounder is to maintain the high standards and consistency of the coffee, customer service and cafe food prepared. This position requires you to work calmly and professionally in what can be a fast-paced cafe/kitchen environment and to communicate well with all team members. Ad hoc duties will be required at times, as directed by management.

Key responsibilities and essential skills include:
● Drive and maintain the Food Collective culture and brand throughout the cafe by communicating effectively, developing positive work relationships
● Ensure you follow all Food Collective procedures and adhere to the Whittlesea Community Connections Code of Conduct.
● Basic cooking skills are required to help prepare daily cafe and catering items.
● Help to manage the cafe and ensure it is clean and well maintained at all times.
● Correct and hygienic food handling procedures will need to be closely adhered to. For these reasons, the Casual Barista must hold a current Safe Food Handling Certificate.
● Work closely with the Cafe and Catering Supervisor and Cook/Trainers to output the highest standard of coffee and food for internal and external catering, events and the cafe offering.

We will prioritise locals who live in the northern/ outer northern suburbs of Melbourne. Only experienced baristas with cooking experience will be considered for the role.
