Case Worker - Domestic & Family Violence
Location: Based in Alice Springs with monthly travel to remote Aboriginal communities in the NPY region
Salary: $86,937.53 - $98,361.83 + 11.5% super + salary packaging + additional benefits

About the Role & Client
This role sits within a unique Aboriginal-led organisation that supports Anangu women and their families across remote Central Australian communities. As a Case Worker in the Domestic and Family Violence Service, you'll provide culturally safe and trauma-informed support and advocacy for women and children at risk of or experiencing family violence.
Based in Alice Springs, you will travel regularly to communities across the NPY Lands to build strong relationships, offer direct support, and work collaboratively with the community development team under a strengths-based, community-led framework. The work is varied - from crisis response to long-term recovery - and deeply rooted in cultural respect and women's agency.

About the Service
The Domestic and Family Violence Service (DFVS) works holistically, prioritising respectful, relational, and community-driven approaches. It draws on the Malparara way - a cross-cultural practice framework guiding collaboration between Anangu and non-Indigenous staff to achieve meaningful, sustainable outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
Counselling & Case Management

  • Respond to referrals from women experiencing family violence
  • Conduct risk assessments using CRAT or other tools
  • Develop safety and case plans in collaboration with clients
  • Maintain accurate and timely case documentation
  • Advocate with police, health services, and other agencies

Community Outreach & Development

  • Travel monthly to remote communities (bush trips)
  • Facilitate group programs using community development principles
  • Support community-led initiatives aligned with the Strengthening Community Capacity to End Violence framework

Risk & Safety Planning

  • Provide crisis support and coordinate referrals
  • Guide women through legal and justice processes
  • Act as a backup for intake and assessment where needed

Team & Professional Practice

  • Participate in regular supervision and reflective practice
  • Contribute to a culturally safe, trauma-informed team environment
  • Work collaboratively with other internal teams and services

Skills & Requirements

  • Degree in Social Work, Community Development, or related field - or significant experience in DFV casework (A willingness to undertake studies in social work following commencement of position)
  • Demonstrated trauma-informed case management experience
  • Understanding of domestic and family violence in Aboriginal cultural contexts
  • Excellent communication, advocacy, and conflict resolution skills
  • Resilience and a strong self-care approach
  • Driver's licence and ability to travel remotely, including operating manual 4WD
  • Willingness to co-share accommodation in remote locations (when required)
  • Current First Aid certificate or willingness to obtain
  • National criminal history and Working with Children check
