Mid Coast Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy (WDVCAS) is seeking a Domestic and Family Violence Specialist worker to join the team in Taree and work within the Co-Location Pilot position with Manning Great Lakes Police Force.
The Co-Location Pilot has been developed and trialed as a recommendation from the Domestic Violence Death Review Team (DVDRT) and is in partnership between the NSW Police Force and Women's Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Program
The Co-Location Pilot assists police where a criminal justice response is not required, yet a referral to support services is more appropriate. The Co-Location Pilot also builds relationships between Mid North Coast WDVCAS and frontline police by increasing communication and gaining a greater understanding of each other’s work.

Key responsibilities of this role
The work of the Co-location Pilot Worker includes, but is not limited to:
Assist women who attend the police station to report, or seek help regarding, domestic and family violence, by providing them with information, support and advocacy.
Support women who are brought back to the police station by Police after a domestic and family violence incident, ensuring they receive appropriate information, support and advocacy.
Support women while they give statements regarding domestic and family violence to Police, where appropriate and permitted.
Liaise with Police regarding domestic and family violence matters and participating in local training and information sessions with Police.
Address the safety and wellbeing of children and young people through child-aware practices during intake, risk assessment, and safety planning, and making referrals as required.
Liaise with the Safety Action Meeting (SAM) Coordinator regarding clients assessed as ‘at serious threat’.
Liaise with the WDVCAS Manager and other WDVCAS colleagues to ensure a coordinated response for clients seen at the police station reducing duplication of referrals.
Undertake safety planning and make warm referrals to relevant services to address clients' ongoing social welfare and legal needs.
Participate in and assist with the Co-location Pilot evaluation.
Comply with the WDVCAP Policy and Procedure Manual, the Domestic Violence Information Sharing Protocol and other relevant documents.
Fulfill reporting requirements as needed ensuring accurate and timely documentation.
Contribute to the preparation of appropriate resource and referral materials for the service.
Attend relevant professional development activities, training and team meetings which may require travel at times.
Attend regular supervision and contribute to reflective practice.
Represent the Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service in a positive and professional manner at all times.
Essential Criteria - You must address each of the Essential Criteria in writing, to be considered.
Tertiary qualifications in relevant field such as Social Work/ Social Science/Counselling.
A minimum of 2 years experience working with women and their children in domestic violence i.e. domestic and family violence specialist role.
Strong understanding of domestic and family violence, its complexities and consequences.
Understanding of intersectionality between social issues and domestic and family violence, in particular the barriers that women may face when seeking assistance.
Ability to work from a trauma informed approach that is person-centred and non-judgemental.
Detailed understanding of the justice response to domestic and family violence.
Excellent communication skills, particularly in negotiation, advocacy, and conflict resolution.
Knowledge of related legal matters such as family law, care and protection, migration, and victim’s compensation issues.
Knowledge of relevant local services to ensure appropriate referrals are made to address clients’ ongoing social welfare and legal needs.
Ability to work well independently, including good time management and task prioritisation skills.
Ability to deliver services in accordance with the WDVCAP model of service delivery outlined in the WDVCAP Policy and Procedure Manual and other relevant documents; and
Current clearance in relation to Working with Children and relevant NSW Police Force checks.
