Details: This is a rare opportunity for an early career or forestry graduate to join the Forest Management section of ACT Parks and Conservation Service in a permanent role. We're a small team within the Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development (EPSDD) Environment, Heritage and Parks (EHP) Division of EPSDD who are passionate about social, environmental and economic benefits of sustainable forest management to the Canberra community. We plan and deliver commercial forestry operations across 8,500 planted hectares of softwood and are closely involved in bushfire mitigation activities in the ACT.
Working under direction of the Assistant Director, Forest Management, your role will primarily be to:
- Champion safety across operations
- Contribute to the planning and on-site management of harvesting and haulage of 90,000 tonnes of logs per annum
- Administer the eDocket (LOGR) system for integrity of data for the Territory's customers and contractors
- Undertake site inspections and using desktop GIS and mobile mapping apps prepare Works Plans for forestry operations
- Assist the Forest Management team with a broad range of activities across the plantation crop rotation from planting to harvest.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:
- A suitable degree in forestry or a related field is highly desirable.
Mandatory requirements include experience using ArcGIS products in the cloud, on mobile devices and on desktops. Please check the qualifications section of the position description carefully as the position is classified as a "fire trained employee" and while previous fire experience is not required the occupant is required to undertake competency based fire training and once trained to participate in fire management duties as directed including fire suppression and hazard reduction.
