About us headspace provides support to young people aged 12-25 experiencing mild to moderate or emerging mental health issues. The multidisciplinary team at headspace Tuggeranong work to improve health, social, vocational and educational outcomes for young people. Grand Pacific Health is the lead agency of headspace Tuggeranong. We are a not-for-profit, primary health care organisation providing locally-tailored, high quality physical and mental health services across NSW and the ACT. About the position The Youth Access Counsellor will work collaboratively with a young person and their family/carers to identify their support needs, goals and develop collaborative care plans. The Youth Access Counsellor will provide early intervention counselling and support services to young people who have or may be at risk of developing a mental health and/or substance use disorder or have economic and social recovery needs. This position requires working closely with the other members of the headspace Tuggeranong team and external service providers and works to maximise care outcomes for young people referred to headspace Tuggeranong. Based in headspace Tuggeranong, this is a part-time opportunity (22.5 hours per week), fixed term until 30 June 2026. We are looking for someone with:

  1. Qualifications in Social Work, Mental Health Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Counselling, Psychology or other relevant field as well as eligibility for registration with the appropriate professional organisation/authority as required.
  2. Experience working within a multidisciplinary team environment, providing counselling in response to the needs of young people.
  3. Demonstrated understanding of the health and wellbeing needs of young people with mental health and/or substance use problems.
  4. Demonstrated ability to undertake assessment and screening of clients and their carers to determine client care needs and assist clients to access necessary services.
