About us headspace provides support to young people aged 12-25 experiencing mild to moderate or emerging mental health issues. The multidisciplinary team at headspace Canberra work to improve health, social, vocational and educational outcomes for young people. Grand Pacific Health is the lead agency of headspace Canberra. We are a not-for-profit, primary health care organisation providing locally-tailored, high quality physical and mental health services across NSW and the ACT. About the position Are you seeking an exciting new role that will enable you to make a positive impact on the mental health and wellbeing of people in our local communities? If so, this may be the perfect opportunity for you. The Community Engagement Officer will be located at headspace Canberra, in Braddon. The Community Engagement Officer takes a lead role in promoting and enhancing understanding of the services offered at headspace Canberra including;

  • Coordinating community awareness activities to promote early help seeking and improved access for young people
  • Ensuring information available to young people, their families and the local community is accessible and easy to understand
  • Leading youth participation activities to encourage their involvement and engagement of in GPH headspace programs

Together with the Service Manager, the Community Engagement Officer will represent the service at community forums and events as well as develop local partnerships that ensure the headspace Canberra is an integrated part of the youth health and wellbeing sector.

This is a part-time opportunity (3-4 days a week), fixed term until 30 June 2026 with possibility of extension.
We are looking for someone with:

  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline, and/or extensive experience in community development, health promotion, public health, social sciences or education.
  • Proven ability to engage and communicate to groups of people (including public speaking), tailoring communication to suit a specific target group or age range.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the health and wellbeing needs of young people with mental health and/or substance use problems.
  • Ability to manage and prioritise a range of tasks and projects simultaneously.
    Experience in coordinating, implementing and reporting on health promotion/community programs with some level of autonomy.
