About the team

The Open Space Asset Management and Planning business unit is responsible for some of the City’s most treasured lifestyle assets and spaces. This includes the planning, development and asset management of parks, beaches, lakes, waterways and sport and recreation facilities. The team is passionate about providing high quality open space areas that are a key driver for the City’s liveability and success, with a range of experience in landscape architecture, coastal and civil Engineering, community infrastructure planning, arboriculture and horticulture and asset and project management.

About your new role

As a Senior Officer within the Sport and Recreation Assets team, you will play a key role in managing the City’s sporting assets. This will include strategic asset management planning, design and maintenance specifications, project planning and management and stakeholder consultation. The position will act as the asset custodian/project owner of open space sporting assets and will be responsible for projects from inception through to completion. They will work closely with internal stakeholders from the Sport and Recreation team (Service Gold Coast) to facilitate projects with sporting clubs and organisations.

Responsibilities and duties of the role include, but are not limited to:

Manage the planning and delivery of projects and operational maintenance of sport specific infrastructure within open space.

Develop design standards and maintenance specifications for sport specific infrastructure, in consultation with relevant sporting organisations and Sport and Recreation (Service Gold Coast) team.

Contribute to the development of concept plans and master plans for sports parks/facilities.

Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders and negotiate robust outcomes for the City.

Manage consultants, contractors and internal service providers.

Provide advice to Councillors, City personnel and the public on complex sport projects.

Present project updates, reporting and consult with Council, Government agencies, community and external stakeholders.

Liaise with operational and maintenance staff to ensure future projects are well designed and deliver whole-of-life benefits.

Alignment with Gold Coast Sport and Physical Activity Strategy.

We're looking for people who have:

A passion for sport and want to make a real contribution to enhance the Gold Coast way of life.

Professional experience in infrastructure asset management and project management.

Prior experience in managing open space sport specific infrastructure eg. cricket nets, sports lights, dugouts, scoreboards.

Excellent communication skills with an ability to provide clear advice, guidance and influence on project outcomes.

Confidence in collaborating with a variety of stakeholders, including Councillors, Executive Management, sports clubs/organisations and the Gold Coast community.

The ability to handle matters of a confidential nature, incorporating a degree of judgement and initiative.
