Role Description
This is a full-time remote role for a Specialist Behaviour Support Practitioner within the NDIS industry. The Specialist Behaviour Support Practitioner will be responsible for providing behaviour supports and education within the Gold Coast and Greater Brisbane regions. They will develop and implement behaviour support plans, conduct assessments, and provide training and guidance to individuals and their support networks.
While this is a work from home role, candidates must be based within the Greater Gold Coast or Greater Brisbane regions as travel is required to our participants. We have a fortnightly team meeting on the Gold Coast in person that includes lunch, supervision, and a friendly catch-up.
A National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Specialist Behaviour Support Practitioner plays a crucial role in supporting individuals with disabilities who exhibit challenging behaviours. Their job tasks typically include:
Assessment: Conducting thorough assessments of the individual's behaviour, including the triggers, antecedents, and consequences of the behaviours.
Behaviour Support Plan Development: Creating individualised behaviour support plans based on the assessment findings. These plans outline strategies and interventions to address the challenging behaviours effectively.
Collaboration: Working closely with the individual with a disability, their families, caregivers, and other professionals involved in their care to develop comprehensive support plans.
Training and Education: Providing training and education to the individual, their support network, and caregivers on implementing behaviour support strategies effectively. This may include teaching alternative communication methods, coping skills, and positive behaviour reinforcement techniques.
Monitoring and Evaluation: Regularly monitoring the implementation of the behaviour support plan and evaluating its effectiveness. Adjustments to the plan may be necessary based on the individual's progress and changing needs.
Crisis Intervention: Providing crisis intervention and support during times of escalated behaviour to ensure the safety and well-being of the individual and others involved.
Advocacy: Advocating for the rights and needs of individuals with disabilities, including ensuring access to appropriate services and supports.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintaining detailed records of assessments, interventions, progress notes, and any incidents related to behaviour support. This documentation is often required for reporting purposes and to track outcomes over time.
Continuing Education: Staying updated on best practices, research, and developments in the field of behaviour support through continuing education and professional development activities.
Ethical Practice: Adhering to ethical guidelines and standards of practice in behaviour support, including maintaining confidentiality and respecting the dignity and autonomy of the individuals they support.
