Position overview
The Research Software Engineer will operate in the HDRH’s core RSE team based in Canberra, reporting to the Director and collaborating closely with the SSRIN team. The RSE will be expected to work collegially, leading by example to develop and maintain effective, productive and beneficial workplace relationships with colleagues, as well as with Hub partners and the wider SSRIN research community. Under broad direction of the HDRH Director and the SSRIN management team at UQ, the Research Software Engineer will:
- Undertake a current state assessment of national training and development opportunities in digital social science, identifying gaps and opportunities for capacity enhancement.
- Contribute to the development of a comprehensive training program in quantitative and qualitative methods, data analytics, and digital tools for domain researchers.
- Liaise with SSRIN colleagues developing Indigenous data management guidelines, ensuring those guidelines are reflected in the training program.
- Contribute to the development of academic and research software engineering (RSE) career frameworks.
- Maintain a working knowledge of best-practice procedures in the context of computationally intensive research, and an awareness of relevant state-of-the-art technologies that might be applied to digital social science research.
- Perform other duties as requested, consistent with the classification level of the position.
This role is ideal for candidates with an interest in digital research methods and experience developing training material for academic or government audiences.
