The Associate Research Fellow in Avian Behaviour will initiate and conduct research into bird behaviour, ecology and evolution: specifically the escape behaviour of two threatened bird species (the hooded plover, and helmeted honeyeater). The work forms part of an ARC-funded project “Evolving escape: anti-predator adaptations in threatened bird species”.

As an Associate Research Fellow, Avian Behaviour, you will:

  • Carry out an extensive field-based research programme in bird behaviour
  • Engage collaboratively to produce novel and high-quality research outputs in high-impact international journals
  • Utilise knowledge of the latest literature and methods relevant to the avian behaviour, ecology and evolution
  • Develop and employ skills in the analysis of biological data
  • Exhibit excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship-management skills (e.g., with BirdLife Australia, DEECA, Zoos Victoria)

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • A PhD in a relevant discipline
  • A clean, current driving licence
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct and publish high-quality research
  • Experience, skills and capacity to conduct independent field studies of bird behaviour in remote locations and for extended periods of time
  • Proven capacity to design and manage a research project
