About the role

Provide first-level assistance to Production Editors in in dealing with technical conversion challenges (e.g. PDF, XML, HTML) and technologies and perform quality control checks on SA’s content across our digital platforms, to ensure content is accurately presented on these platforms.

This is a salaried, full-time, 12 month fixed-term contract.

What you’ll do

  • Review workflows, evaluate new layouts/setups with complex texts, and help the editorial team choose the best workflow practises to facilitate successful publishing
  • Monitor content loads and make quality checks of publications on SA’s eCommerce Websites and Mobile App
  • Accurately perform the publication finalisation processes: ensuring pricing information is accurate, produce PDFs, verify metadata
  • Respond to all enquiries from internal and external stakeholders, including our distribution partners
  • Perform Quality Assurance (QA) responsibilities to ensure that the published standards match the master source draft
  • Utilise conversion tools and the pdf, Web Reader and Mobile app layout guidelines
  • Follow established bug logging, and issue remediation guidelines
  • Maintain accuracy by making any necessary changes to the XML tags and rerunning procedures to ensure that the content of the source MS Word and XML files corresponds
  • Use relevant software to validate content (e.g. parsing XML data with Oxygen Editor

About you

  • University degree or equivalent experience
  • Excellent proof reading ability and high attention to detail
  • Knowledge of electronic publishing
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Word
  • Knowledge of PDF and/or XML technology, InDesign is advantageous
  • Experience in the publishing sector as a technical production assistant or a comparable position
  • Experience in a data management environment like an information centre
