The Plant Operator / Forklift Yardhand is responsible for operating forklifts, managing materials, and ensuring efficient yard operations within a plant or warehouse environment. This role includes overseeing the loading and unloading of goods, maintaining the yard, and supporting plant operations to ensure smooth and safe workflow.

Key Responsibilities:

Forklift Operation:

Operate forklifts to load, unload, and transport materials, equipment, and products within the yard and plant areas.

Ensure the proper handling and storage of materials, following safety procedures and plant protocols.

Inspect forklifts and equipment before use and report any maintenance issues promptly.

Material Handling and Yard Management:

Organize, arrange, and maintain materials in the yard to ensure an efficient flow of goods and proper space utilization.

Manage inventory in the yard, ensuring all materials are accounted for and properly stored.

Assist in the stacking, organizing, and moving of heavy materials as required.

Safety and Compliance:

Follow all company safety policies and OSHA guidelines, ensuring a safe working environment at all times.

Maintain a clean and organized yard to minimize hazards and improve operational efficiency.

Perform regular safety checks on equipment and report unsafe conditions immediately.

Load and Unload Trucks:

Assist with loading and unloading trucks in a timely manner to meet shipment schedules.

Ensure products are securely placed and properly strapped down to prevent damage during transport.

Check deliveries against shipping documentation for accuracy.

Support Plant Operations:

Support plant operators with various duties, including transporting raw materials or finished products as needed.

Ensure all materials are delivered to the correct areas within the plant for processing.

Assist with plant equipment maintenance tasks, such as cleaning or minor repairs when needed.

Record Keeping and Documentation:

Maintain accurate records of materials and goods moving through the yard.

Document inventory levels, materials received, and shipments, ensuring accuracy and proper tracking.

Ensure all paperwork associated with inventory movement, deliveries, and shipments is completed correctly.

Team Collaboration:

Work closely with other plant operators, yard hands, and supervisors to ensure smooth operations.

Communicate any issues or delays to supervisors in a timely and effective manner.

Assist with other operational tasks as directed by the plant manager or supervisor.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Previous experience operating forklifts and working in a warehouse or plant environment is preferred.

Valid forklift operator certification

Strong knowledge of safety procedures and regulations related to forklift operation.

Basic understanding of plant operations and material handling processes.

Ability to lift heavy items and work in physically demanding conditions.

Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Preferred Skills:

Knowledge of basic maintenance practices for forklifts and plant equipment.

Additional certifications related to material handling or safety.

Work Environment:

This position typically involves working outdoors in a yard environment.

The role may involve exposure to heavy machinery, noise, and varying weather conditions.
