We are looking for a Senior Rates Officer ready to lead with purpose, enhance systems and processes, and mentor a developing team member. This is a hands-on role that values technical expertise, reliability, and forward thinking.
About the Role
As our Senior Rates Officer, you will be the go-to person for Council’s rating function. You will oversee the accuracy and integrity of our property and rates data, ensure legislative compliance, and lead the end-to-end delivery of rating operations.
You will also play a key role in supporting and coaching our Rates and Revenue Officer, building team capability, and driving continuous improvement.
Key Focus Areas
Maintain the accuracy and integrity of property, rates, and address data.
Provide high-level support with rates modelling.
Ensure all properties are rated correctly and adjustments are processed accurately.
Lead the generation of rate notices and manage arrears and debt recovery.
Prepare statutory reports and public notices.
Troubleshoot system issues and collaborate with IT and software providers.
Administer separate rates, ensuring accurate calculation and record keeping.
Perform end-of-month and end-of-year reporting and reconciliations.
Handle complex ratepayer enquiries and assist in resolving disputes.
Mentor and support the Rates and Revenue Officer
Ensure full compliance with the Local Government Act 1999
Champion a culture of efficiency, improvement, and service excellence
About You
You bring a strong background in property and rating, with a passion for accuracy, systems, and service. You are comfortable making decisions, leading with clarity, and helping others grow.
Ideally, you will have:
Significant experience in local government rates and property administration
Strong knowledge of rating systems, data integrity, and legislative requirements
Excellent communication and customer service skills
A proactive, collaborative approach and a continuous improvement mindset
A willingness to lead, mentor, and innovate.
