Assistant Project Manager – Student Accommodation
Location: Sydney | Full-time | Immediate Start
Ready to level up your project management career? We’re offering an exceptional opportunity for an ambitious Assistant Project Manager (or Junior Project Manager) to work on exciting, fast-turnaround capital works projects that make a tangible impact. This is the perfect next step for someone with 1.5–2 years of experience looking to accelerate into a full Project Manager role.
About the Role
This role places you at the heart of fast-paced refurbishment and capital upgrade projects within student accommodation buildings. From upgrading hundreds of rooms during tight holiday windows to refreshing communal spaces like study lounges and game rooms — no two days will be the same.
You’ll manage multiple live projects simultaneously while receiving hands-on support and mentorship from an experienced senior project leader. It’s an opportunity that offers both autonomy and growth, with exposure to end-to-end project delivery.
What You'll Be Working On
Coordinating room upgrade projects (e.g., 300+ rooms over 9 weeks)
Managing refurbishments of common areas – study zones, lounge spaces, games rooms, etc.
Delivering projects within extremely tight timeframes, particularly between November and February (during the student break)
Working on live operational sites, maintaining minimal disruption to current student residents
Managing multiple concurrent projects within the same or across different sites
Engaging with internal teams, consultants, contractors, and highly diverse student stakeholders
Ensuring timely procurement, budgeting, and scheduling for each project
Tracking performance and cost against project plans using Excel, Microsoft Project, and occasionally Bluebeam or Procore/Aconex
What We’re Looking For
1.5–2 years' experience in an Assistant Project Manager or Junior PM capacity
A self-starter with strong organisational skills and an ability to juggle competing priorities
Excellent communication and stakeholder management – you’ll be interfacing with culturally diverse student tenants
Strong understanding of live site conditions and how to deliver on strict deadlines
Comfortable navigating high-pressure environments where delivery cannot be delayed
Familiarity with Excel and Microsoft Project (Bluebeam, Procore, or Aconex is a plus but not essential)
Why This Role Stands Out
Immediate impact – be hands-on from day one with projects that affect real people
Career progression – clear pathway to Project Manager with mentorship from a highly experienced leader
Dynamic learning – exposure to everything from design coordination to delivery
Purpose-driven work – enhance the living experience of students across major sites
Tight-knit team culture – no red tape, just real opportunity and support
If you’re ready to roll up your sleeves, thrive in a fast-paced setting, and grow your project management skills across a diverse and rewarding portfolio — we want to hear from you.
